Our Heart

We want to be an open and welcoming community integrating new people into the heart of our church, but most of all we would like to grow by bringing our friends and neighbours to Christ with ‘life on life’ relationship.

Our Beliefs

At St Peters in the City, Tauranga, we seek to be a people so inspired by our relationship with God that we are compelled to share it joyfully with others.

As Christ’s disciples we will continue to proclaim our faith to all people through words, deeds and signs.

As Church members we seek to be a people of worship, bible study and prayer, and look forward to ongoing spiritual growth; we seek to be a visible expression of the Kingdom of God in Tauranga.

As servants of the Lord we seek to be a strong Christian influence in the world, seeking to transform society and care for the lost and disadvantaged in our community.

We will be open to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and seek the unity of the Spirit across all ages and all groupings in the Christian church. To do this, we are prepared to accept change. We welcome anyone who shares this vision to join us.

Our Values

At St Peters in the City, Tauranga we offer a church community of services, resources and caring for your spiritual journey. We have 5 values that we believe will help us to grow as Christians.

Our values are:

Learning

We are committed to Learning, to learning more about the bible, to learning more about faith, to knowing more about prayer and to putting these disciplines into action.  We want to be life long learners, who keep discovering more about our awesome God.

Loving

If you want to sum up the Christian faith in one word, it would be love – but love is not an idea it is something that we need to experience personally and so we place a really high value on Small Groups and mentoring relationships where we can get to know each other, and love and be loved.

Worshipping

We value worship and the desire to experience closeness to God, we try to make our worship services authentic and we also believe that a good service is built on a commitment to personal worship, not just on great musicians.

Serving

We see service as not an activity but as a lifestyle, as we aim to be formed into the sort of people who are like Jesus, servants and not just people who are adding activities to our diaries.

Inviting

And finally we value invitation, the personal effort to invite other people along to everything we do, but especially to the invitation to follow Jesus.

Our Vision

Life was designed to be lived to the full. At  St Peters, we want to help you live life to the full, the fullness of Christ.  Our vision is to see people growing.  We believe that God grows His kingdom by growing people – people who are coming to believe in Him, people who are learning to follow Christ, and people who are giving their whole lives to God’s mission.

We believe that people need to lay solid foundations for their life of faith and that these take time to develop. We are committed to helping people lay good foundations.

We are also aware that people often make the biggest changes in their lives in quite short time-spans in what we can call ‘catalytic experiences’ and so we are committed to providing these.  Thirdly, we believe that God doesn’t want us to grow alone and so we are committed to encouraging people into deep friendships and lasting Small Groups where we can know Christ together.

We value excellence but not above authenticity. We gather for worship and we disperse to serve and influence our community.  We delight to include members of the wider community as fellow helpers beside us when we serve and we always point to Christ who we believe is the hope of the world.

You and Jesus are the heart of our Mission Plan.

We, the people of St Peters, by prayer, by conversation and by invitation will bring our friends and neighbours to come to know Jesus.

Life will never be boring while we are engaged in this, the most exciting of all adventures.  It will push you further than a mountain climb, stretch you more than a  bungy jump and challenge you more than an advanced degree – but you will never feel more alive than when you are on-mission with Jesus.

Come join in!

Get Connected

At St Peters in the City, Tauranga, we seek to be a people so inspired by our relationship with God that we are compelled to share it joyfully with others.

Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.

Billy Graham

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

C. S. Lewis
