Mount Maunganui Tragic Event
Yesterday’s news of the tragic slip that destroyed parts of the Mt Maunganui Beachside Holiday Park sent a shockwave of sadness across the country, particularly for the families directly affected, and especially here in our own community. This is a place we know well and love dearly, and the loss feels very close to home.
As a church community, we pause to acknowledge the pain of this unforeseen tragedy and to seek God’s comfort for all who have been impacted. We hold especially in our prayers the families who are waiting, immersed in uncertainty, fear, and heartbreak, longing for answers and reassurance.
In the midst of confusion and brokenness, we look to the God of life, who is near to the hurting and faithful to uphold those who feel overwhelmed. May His peace surround every family, His strength sustain rescue and support workers, and His hope gently light the way through these dark and difficult days.
Prayer
Loving God,
We lift up to You the families whose lives have been shaken by the sudden landslide on the mountainside. Lord, you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.
We pray for those who have lost loved ones. Wrap them in Your unfailing love, and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds. In their grief, may they feel Your presence as their Comforter.
For those who are injured or displaced, we ask for Your healing hand to restore their bodies and renew their spirits. Surround them with people who will stand beside them with compassion and practical support.
Lord, we also lift up the rescue workers, volunteers, and medical teams. Grant them strength, wisdom, and protection as they serve tirelessly in difficult and dangerous conditions.
We pray for the wider community, that fear will not take root, but that hope will rise instead.
Amen.
Just as families grow, let us grow together in the Lord, here at St Peters.
