Sweeter Than Honey
Psalm 119:103
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
Winter has certainly arrived! Along with the colder mornings have come the inevitable coughs, colds, and flu. Quite a number of people in our church family have been affected, and one particular bug seems determined to keep people out of action for a couple of weeks. Please know that you are in our prayers, and we ask God to bring healing, strength, and renewed health to everyone who is unwell.
If you’re anything like me, one of the simple comforts of winter is a hot drink with a squeeze of lemon and a spoonful of honey. It warms you from the inside out and, if nothing else, makes you feel a little better!
That simple picture came to mind as I read Psalm 119:103:
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
The psalmist reminds us that God’s Word has a way of bringing comfort, encouragement, and hope just when we need it. A few quiet moments reading a Psalm or reflecting on the words of Jesus can be just what our hearts need at the start of the day.
God’s Word really is a Word for every season. It speaks to us in times of joy and in times of struggle, when life is busy and when life slows down. There is always something fresh for us to discover.
With the Matariki holiday this Friday, many of us will have the opportunity to pause and enjoy a slower pace. Why not take a few extra minutes to savour God’s Word as well? Read a favourite Psalm, spend a little longer in prayer, or share a verse that has encouraged you with someone else.
And as you do, remember the next beautiful picture in this same psalm:
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
May God’s Word be both the sweetness that refreshes your heart and the light that guides your steps this week.
Blessings
