Advent Season | JOY

Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings, church family!

The third Sunday of Advent is Joy. I invite us to reflect on the joy we have access to because of our faith in Jesus. The bible says the “the joy of the Lord is my strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Here Nehemiah exhorts the people of Israel to celebrate and rejoice in the Lord, for it is through His joy that they find strength.

As believers, our source of strength is not found in our own abilities or circumstances, but rather in the joy that comes from knowing and serving the Lord.

Let us remember that our joy is rooted in the Lord and in our relationship with Him.

The experience of joy through a spiritual lens focuses on God’s faithfulness and promises, rather than being overwhelmed by our circumstances.

  • Find joy by seeking Him wholeheartedly: Draw near to God and make Him the centre of your life.
  • Find joy by cultivating gratitude: Count your blessings and thank God for His goodness in all circumstances.
  • Find joy by surrendering to God’s will: Trust in Him completely, knowing His plans are for your good.
  • Find joy by serving others: Look for opportunities during the Christmas season to bless those around you with acts of kindness and love.

Do you know what the fourth Sunday of advent is about? Maybe you can check it out and compare it with next week’s Pastoral message.

It’s not too late to make you wreath.

Lighting the candles at dinner is a wonderful way to bring the family together and reflect on the season.
