Feeling Overwhelmed – Christmas Is the Answer
Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings and Talofa lava!
As we move toward Christmas, I am hearing people already say things like, “I don’t know where to start.” “Everything feels like it’s piling up.” “I’m struggling to keep my head above water.” “I feel like I’m juggling too many things at once.” If you find yourself in that place today, know this: you are not alone, and God sees you.
Many of us walk through seasons when life feels heavier than we expected when the responsibilities, pressures, and emotions of the moment feel like waves rising around us. In those moments, Scripture gently reminds us to turn our hearts toward God, the One who truly understands.
David knew the weight of being stretched beyond his strength. He prayed, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2). Jesus also speaks directly to those whose hearts feel tired and burdened: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).
And God answered the deepest longing of our hearts in the most unexpected way by sending His Son into the world. In the midst of fear, uncertainty, and noise, the angels declared, “Do not be afraid… Today a Saviour has been born to you.” (Luke 2:10–11).
This is the hope we hold onto. God came near. He stepped into our world, into our mess, into our overwhelmed hearts.
So as Christmas approaches, may you find rest in the God who came. May the peace of Christ settle your heart, lighten your load, and remind you that you are never carrying life alone.
Emmanuel, God with us, is with you today.
Christmas is God’s answer to the overwhelmed heart.
