Good Friday and Easter Sunday
Kia ora koutou, warm greetings, and ngā mihi nui – it’s Passion week!
Last week we celebrated Palm Sunday, a wonderful time of rejoicing as we remembered Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Now, as we continue this special week together, I invite you, our church whānau, to join us for two special gatherings.
Good Friday – 18 April | 9:00–10:00am
We’ll meet on the front lawn, gathered around the cross below the one on our church building. If it is raining, we will meet inside the foyer. Bring a friend and join us for a quiet, reflective time as we read and sing from the four Gospels and hear the powerful witness of Jesus’ journey to Golgotha and His final words on the cross.
The death of Jesus is unlike any other in history. He died to save us from eternal separation from God. Through His death, He built a bridge so we can have eternal life with God. And through His resurrection, Jesus broke the power of death once and for all.
We remember His sacrifice with the words of Jesus at the Last Supper from 1 Corinthians 11:24, 26:
“Do this in remembrance of me… For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
Good Friday is good because it brings the promise of hope, victory over death, and life forever with Him. So why not invite a neighbour to join us?
Easter Sunday – 20 April | He is Risen!
It doesn’t end on Friday… Sunday is coming! His resurrection is a reality and so is ours.
Jesus rose from the grave, and because He lives, we have the promise of new life too.
Just imagine how it felt for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples—seeing the empty tomb, hearing the angels declare the good news. Their friend, their messiah, their saviour was alive.
What does Easter mean to you as you read these scriptures below?
“Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. The angel said “He is not here; He has risen, just as He said!.. (Mathew 28)
“Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! (Mark 16)
He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee. That He will rise on the third day.’”(Luke 24:6)
Hallelujah – Jesus is alive!
Come to church on Easter Sunday and let’s celebrate the risen King together.
