Held in His Arms

Talofa Lava , warm greetings, and manuia le aso !

This week, I have asked my wife Felicity to share her thoughts on her recent hospital experience with keyhole knee surgery.

“He Knows Our Pain”

“Surgery! It’s a word many of us dread. For some, it offers hope of healing. For others, it’s the result of an unexpected injury or long-term condition.

I recently underwent surgery, and to be honest, it was harder than I expected. I struggled with the effects of the anaesthetic and felt alone at times in the recovery process. But in my weakness, I leaned into the strength of Jesus, my rock and refuge and felt uplifted by the love and prayers of our church whānau. Thank you.”

Some in our church are also carrying heavy loads — rushing to be with parents, supporting loved ones through illness, or facing their own private battles. If that’s you, please know this: you are not alone.

Jesus says, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

His arms are always open. He knows our pain. He walks with us.

A Prayer for Healing and Strength

Loving God,
You see us in our weakness, in our pain, and in the moments when we feel overwhelmed. You know every story — of surgery, stress, sorrow, or sudden change (Psalm 139).

We lift to you those who are unwell, those recovering, and those caring for loved ones near and far.
Give rest to the weary, healing to the broken, and peace to anxious hearts.
Wrap each one in your comfort and remind us that we are never alone (Deuteronomy 31:6 & Joshua 1:9)

Thank you for the love of Christ, the strength of your Spirit, and the gift of community.
May we continue to support one another as your hands and feet in the world (Ephesians 2:10).

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
