Rest for the Soul in the Midst of Life’s Demands
Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings and Talofa lava!
What a busy week it has been at St Peter’s.
Yesterday we hosted the Samoan speech language competitions in the auditorium. It was wonderful to see students from across the Bay using the language of their parents. Their speeches always acknowledged God the Creator, and I pray this recognition of our Lord and Saviour will remain a constant in their faith journeys.
Hope
The past few months of news around the world has been very worrying. Some of you may feel weary, overwhelmed by events in our country and around the world, or worn down by the constant demands of life. It’s easy to feel discouraged or distant from God.
Yet even in these moments, there is hope. We are not alone. Jesus says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
He knows our struggles and offers peace and renewal. As our Good Shepherd, He leads us to green pastures and still waters (Psalm 23), and He promises, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10).
God’s Word is our guide and comfort: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105). Whatever storms you face, personal, national, or global, remember: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).
So let us fix our eyes on the Lord, our hope and strength. “Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength… they shall run and not be weary.” (Isaiah 40:31)
This week’s encouragement: Remember those times you spent with the Lord and came away refreshed. This week, try and make the effort to find that quiet space, turn off any distractions, and simply sit in His presence. Perhaps put on some worship music, read a short passage like Psalm 23 or Matthew 11:28-30, and speak honestly to God. Ask Him to renew your strength and fill you with His peace. We are also always available at the church to pray for you. You can phone the church office or me on 07 9750203 for private attention.
