God Delights in His Children

This week has been a joyful one in our household as we celebrated two special birthdays. My youngest granddaughter, Teuila, turned two, and her cousin, Heaven, celebrated her fourth birthday in Auckland and Perth respectively. Although separated by distance, we were able to join their celebrations through a three-way iPhone call. Watching their little faces light up as they opened their presents was pure joy. Their laughter, excitement, and wonder reminded me that some of life’s greatest blessings are found in celebrating the milestones of those we love.

Whether we are two years old or ninety-two, taking our first steps or finishing a lifetime of faithful service, God’s joy in His children remains the same. He delights when we grow in faith, when we show kindness, when we persevere through hardship, when we use the gifts, He has given us, and when we honour Christ in our daily lives. Like a loving parent whose greatest joy is to see their children flourish, our heavenly Father rejoices as we become more like His Son. As Scripture reminds us, “The Lord your God is with you… He will take great delight in you… He will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).

As God’s children, it is comforting to know that before we ever rejoice in Him, He already delights in us. His joy is not based on our age, our achievements, or what we have accomplished, but on the fact that we belong to Him through Christ. Every birthday, every milestone, and every new season becomes another reminder of His faithful love and gracious care. May we continue to use the gifts He has entrusted to us to honour Christ and bless those around us. And as we do, may we always remember that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10), giving us confidence to walk each day in the love and delight of our heavenly Father.

Blessings
