The Beauty of Uniqueness

Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings in this wet and windy weather!

I had a dear retired friend who spent many hours going to the airport sitting in the passenger’s arrival area and watched people returning. Some were tourists, other locals, returning home with a flurry of greetings and emotional reunions.  I often wondered what was behind what I call a “rhythm of life” experience.

What moved him most were the expressions on people’s faces: some were tearful, some shouted joyfully, some jumped with excitement, and others were quiet and sombre. He saw in those moments something sacred—a reflection of the wonder of God and the beauty of God’s character revealed through human connection.

You know, I found myself doing exactly what my friend does when I go to the airport—whether I’m picking up family or traveling myself.”. Taking just a moment to reflect on our uniqueness. These simple, ordinary encounters speak to something profound about who we are.

The Bible reminds us that we are made with intention, uniqueness, and purpose:

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…” So God created mankind in his own image… male and female he created them.Genesis 1:26-27

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.Psalm 139:14

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.Ephesians 2:10

Enjoy the week and take a moment to reflect on your own uniqueness. God loves you and made you exactly as you are—wonderfully and purposefully created.
