The Provision of God
Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings, church family!
Coming up on Sunday 15 September is our Annual General Meeting. Reports are being prepared by various people and groups to reflect our activities from last year. These reports reveal the provision of God and His goodness to us and are testimonies to show His mercies are new every morning and His steadfast love never fails.
This might be a good time to take stock of your journey from last year. What did you do? How did God appear in that setting? Can you encourage someone with your story? These reflections help us in our Spiritual formation.
While training for the Ministry one of the mission activities required of us was “how to participate with God in local mission”. Part of the process was noticing what was in the local community, and secondly listening in the local community as you walk and interact with neighbours and residents and listen to their stories. Taking stock of the noticing, and listening is important to know where God is and how we participate with God’s mission in that space. Perhaps as you reflect on last year, remember God has already placed you in a specific area to bring His blessing to that place.
Here is a little exercise for trialling listening to God in the neighbourhood as you are out walking.
- What’s going on in my local neighbourhood? e.g.new houses, (intensification), new people, big gatherings with many cars parked outside, graffiti, a new business etc.
- What’s going on that I had not noticed before?
- What’s God beginning to show me as I notice what’s going on?
Feel free to email me your responses and observation. Happy walking and biking.
Here are some scriptures to encourage you in your listening.
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD (Psalm 27:14 KJV).
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him. It is good that he waits silently For the salvation of the LORD. (Lamentation 3:25-26 NASB)
