“Nā te Rongopai tēnei kupu karaipiture – words from the scriptures: “He rama tāu kupu ki ōku waewae, he marama ki tōku ara” (Ngā Waiata 119:105)
Uplifting our chiefly language during the week of Te Reo Māori, these words are drawn from Scripture: “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105)
Te Aka Puahou
There have been many moments in my life when I’ve felt lost. Sometimes it was because of my own mistakes, and other times it was just part of life’s journey.
I remember once, in Hawaii back in 2010, I lost my house keys. What a frustrating and helpless feeling that was. Another time was in Santiago, Chile. Felicity and I had taken the train to the central terminal, which was three stories underground. We thought it would be simple – just find a lift and walk out. But it turned into quite an ordeal. All the signs were in Spanish, people were rushing about, and we had no clear sense of direction. For a while, it felt overwhelming. Finally, by accident, we stumbled upon a lift that took us to the right exit. What a relief it was to step out into the open air again!
In Luke 15, Jesus tells three powerful stories about things that were lost but then found: the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. Each one ends with joy, because God celebrates when the lost are found.
God’s heart is the same for us. He promises, “I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak” (Ezekiel 34:16). Jesus Himself said, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).
So even when we feel lost, confused, overwhelmed, or without direction, we can trust that God is searching for us. He doesn’t give up. He is committed to our restoration, body, mind, and spirit. And when He finds us, there is joy and relief greater than any lift leading us out of an underground maze.
