When Life Disappoints
Kia ora koutou, and warm greetings and Talofa lava!
When Life Disappoints
Most of you know that I’m a bit of a sports fanatic. Over the last few weeks, we have enjoyed a real feast with international rugby and cricket games. I love following New Zealand teams when they play against other countries.
But sometimes, when my team begins to lose, I feel annoyed and frustrated. I want them to win, but the game doesn’t go the way I hoped. Sometimes I even turn the TV off before the game finishes, not wanting to admit they are going to lose.
Life is often like this. We make plans, we work hard, and we hope for good results. But things don’t always turn out as we want. We face frustration in our jobs, in our families, and even in our own personal goals.
When disappointment strikes, we often look for strength. It’s in these moments that we can feel weak and vulnerable. But the Bible encourages us and reminds us that God is with us, even when life feels unfair or disappointing.
- “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” – Isaiah 41:10
- “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
- “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
When we feel frustrated, we can either give in to gloom and bitterness, or we can turn to God. He reminds us that His joy gives us strength, His presence gives us peace, and His power carries us through.
This Sunday will be ‘church with a difference.’ If you need a ‘pick me up’, come and be refreshed. Enjoy fellowship with God’s people and let the disappointments of the week fade as you give them to God.
